Kilimanjaro International airport/Arusha
8:00AM
Meet your Driver/guide have briefing and travel southwest to the Tarangire the first safari destination. Tarangire Park is one of East Africa’s best places to see elephants up close, hosting about 4000 elephants. The national park is home to the second highest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania, after the Serengeti Ecosystem. Wildlife includes Maasai giraffes, buffalos, lions, leopards, baboons and a variety of antelopes and gazelle species. This diverse Tanzanian park covers 2600 km² of diverse habitats, ranging from grassy savannahs and seasonal marshlands to woodlands and giant old baobab trees.
After game viewing in Tarangire, head to your lodge inside the game park for dinner and overnight.
On this day after a fresh breakfast at your lodge, you will embark on a full day of game viewing. The Tarangire River is the only permanent water source in the park, during the dry season (July to October), attracting numerous animals to its banks. Herds of buffalo and wildebeests, as well as elephants, are frequently sighted along the river. We also keep an eye out for various birds on our game drives, as Tarangire is also home to over 100 bird species.
Dinner and overnight in Tarangire
After breakfast checkout of Tarangire National Park and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. We travel through culturally diverse Mto Wa Mbu village en route to our next stop. After lunch, take a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, which lies at the base of the western wall of the eastern arm of the Rift Valley. Typically shimmering in a golden heat haze, the lake is often frosted with thousands of flamingos, while the trees that surround the lake are famous for their tree-climbing lions. The park also offers abundant sightings of monkeys, jackals, mongoose, hyenas, hyraxes, zebras, hippos, warthogs, buffalos, Maasai giraffes, duikers, waterbucks, and impalas. Significant numbers of elephants are also resident in the park, whilst sightings of black rhino and leopard are not uncommon.
Dinner & overnight
After early breakfast, venture into the wildlife-rich Ngorongoro Crater, descending into the largest unflooded caldera in the world. Embark on a game drive in search of the amazing abundance of wildlife found here. The Crater is home to Africa’s Big Five (lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinos and leopards) and these are frequently sighted over the short space of a few hours. The conservation area is home to over 25 000 larger animals, the highest density of animals inhabiting any one area in Africa.
Stop for a picnic lunch during your game viewing drive in the vast Crater, ascending the crater walls in the afternoon.
In the afternoon drive from Ngorongoro back to bustling Arusha.
End of safari.
