The park is located in the southwestern direction of Rwanda towards the border of Burundi, south of lake Kivu and west of democratic republic of Congo. Nyungwe forest national park is a vast area of mountain rainforest, well known for chimpanzee trekking as its main tourist attraction with two (2) chimpanzee habituated groups where the small group consists of 30 chimpanzees in Cyamudongo forest area and the larger group has about 60 chimpanzees which are habituated in it. How to get to the park.
Nyungwe forest national park is about 230km from the capital of Rwanda- Kigali that is about 5 hours’ drive. The park can be accessed by road using many road transport means like tour operator cars, car hires, buses and self-drives. Also, those willing to travel by air so that they can reach the park in a short time can use aircrafts like Rwanda air which organize chatter flights. While traveling to the park, you will have a chance to see the Nyanza King’s palace at Nyabisindu.
